Ufuoma Akpojivi is the Policy, Research and Learning Lead at Advocates for International Development (A4ID). Before joining A4ID, Ufuoma was an Associate Professor in the Media Studies Department at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and a Visiting Professor at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria. Prior to this, he was the head of department for two years (2020-2021) at the Media Studies Department, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Also, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the North West University, South Africa, and a Research Assistant at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He previously held academic leadership roles, such as Chair of the Postgraduate Studies Committee (2017-2018), Chair Ethics Committee (2021-2022) and Head of Department (2020-2021).


 He holds a PhD and an M.A. in Communications Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, a B.A. in Mass Communication from Delta State University, Nigeria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (Pdip) from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

His research interests cut across but are not limited to media policy, new media and citizens participation, citizenship, political economy of the media, public relations, advertising, marketing, journalism ethics and practices from the global south, amongst others.
